The main focus for development is undoubtedly engagement with external stakeholders – alumni, parents and the wider school community. Yet senior internal stakeholders – governors, senior leadership and others – are critical to long-term success. How can you strengthen your relationships with your governing body and head and improve their understanding of development? How can you work with them to deliver brilliant results? And how can you ensure your senior leaders become your greatest champions?

Why should you attend?

In last year’s membership survey, one of the greatest challenges cited by members was lack of understanding and managing the expectations of senior leadership teams. This workshop will focus on how best to manage the relationship between senior leadership, governors and heads to ensure that you are working with them to achieve fundraising success.

Who should attend?

Suitable for development professionals wanting to strengthen their relationships with their senior leadership team or for heads, bursars and governors wanting to improve their understanding of how to get the best from a new development team.

Workshop programme

This workshop will explore:

  • Influence – who is integral to your fundraising success, the governing body? the head? the campaign committee? And what do they need to know if you want their support?
  • Project management – planning is not just about having a fundraising strategy in place, it’s also planning what tactics you will use to achieve buy in from relevant stakeholders. What practical steps can you take to manage upwards for best effect?
  • Monitoring and reporting – governing bodies are not just responsible for the total money raised but also how the funds are raised. What are the responsibilities of your governing body from a development perspective? And what information should you share with them?
  • Collaborate – discuss the challenges you face working with your senior leadership team and find ways to overcome these with the speakers and your peers.
See the programme for more information.
