VAT on fees narrows gap between for-profit and charity schools

The introduction of VAT on school fees has meant that there is now "very little difference" in the way for-profit and charitable schools operate, a leading educator has said.

Suzie Longstaff, managing director of the for-profit group Dukes Education, said there was a "sniff of elitism about the charity sector" but the two sectors were now operating in similar ways due to VAT and the removal of business rates relief.
