‘I thought it was an excellent, extremely valuable day. I came away with a whole range of practical ways to launch a development office and get people involved. The atmosphere during the day encouraged discussion, debate and the sharing of ideas. Everyone present felt comfortable to raise issues or challenges they had, or envisaged having.’

Speakers

Clare Atkinson, Development Director, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School

Clare has over 20 years’ experience working in development across a range of organisations in both the charity and education sectors. For the last ten years she has been Development Director at Dr Challoner's Grammar School, a boys' state grammar school located in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

In this time, she has set up a Development Office and firmly embedded a culture of philanthropy within the school. There is a thriving annual fund and a number of successful capital campaigns have seen a new Sixth Form Centre, improvements to laboratories and a rebuilding of the Cricket Pavilion. The school has just launched its latest capital campaign: "Perfect Pitch" which seeks to refurbish and extend the music department and replace the AstroTurf.

She has also relaunched and rebranded the schools' alumni offering; alumni now play an active role in the life of the school.

Cat Gransden, Director of Development, The Blue Coat School, Liverpool

Cat joined The Blue Coat School in 2013 as its first Director of Development to set up the School's development and alumni relations team. Now in its sixth year, the team are enjoying year on year income growth with generous support from a vibrant School community of parents, alumni, students, staff, corporate partners and charitable trusts, and friends old and new. Prior to joining Blue Coat Cat specialised in major giving, working for Cancer Research UK on a £5 million capital campaign, and engaging local people in community philanthropy at the Community Foundation for Merseyside.

Gavin McLellan, Director of Development, Jordanhill School

Gavin has over 18 years fundraising experience across a range of causes including education, international development, cancer care, arts & sports, and young people. His expertise covers capital appeals, community, corporate, fundraising strategy, working with high level boards and major donors.
